Taiwan Trade Centre, London
Last year the Fisheries show welcomed 212 exhibitors and over 6,550 visitors from 56 countries. This year the show will cover five industry portfolios:
An island nation with 1,600 kilometres of coastline, Taiwan has one of the world’s largest fishing industries, sized at US$3.6 billion in 2015. Predominantly an export-led market, 90% of its catch ends up on dinner plates overseas, approximately US$200 million of which is exported to the EU annually. With hundreds of years of progress in tuna longline fishing, today Taiwan is one of the world’s largest tuna fishing nations with 36 per cent of the global tuna longline fleet.
Starting in 2016, Taiwan has implemented a series of measures to promote the sustainable development of sea resources, reflected in the ‘sustainable fishing’ theme of last year’s show, which has in turn opened up new business opportunities for onboard equipment used in fish monitoring and reporting.
Thanks to Taiwan’s strengths in vessel production, seafood processing, and aquaculture development, the fisheries show is a prime sourcing platform. Taiwan’s position as hub connecting the international market with Asia-pacific and ASEAN market provides an ideal opportunity to scout Asian agents and swap ideas with leading fishery technology manufacturers, farmer and breeders. Exhibitors include national pavilions representing Japan, South Korea, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the South Pacific counties.
This year’s show will also feature an international forum with speakers from the US, Germany, Korea and Taiwan giving their insight into the latest trends in the aquaculture industry including sustainable fisheries, feeding methods and biodiversity.
